What is it?

What is it for?

The Materials Management Operations Guideline and Logistics Evaluation (MMOG/LE) is a global guideline of best practices for Suppliers and OEMs. This is a self-assessment tool developed to address more efficient flow of information and product within all tiers of the supply chain. The MMOG identifies high risk processes like Capacity Planning, as well as, criteria that identify the Best in Class among suppliers.

It is no longer enough to provide a quality product; quality service must be equally important. MMOG/LE is an MP&L audit that aligns with the ISO/TS 16949 and lean principles that both take the "process approach" for identifying, developing, implementing and improving effective processes.

How is it used?

The Global MMOG/LE self-assessment tool is a complex spreadsheet that uses weighted questions to determine which areas should be given high priority.

F1 REQUIREMENTS
Companies who truly understand the intent of the criteria are considered best in class.  If not met, the organization's competitiveness will be adversely affected.
F2 REQUIREMENTS
If not met, customer satisfaction and the organization's performance will be seriously affected.
F3 REQUIREMENTS
If not met, there is a high risk of interruption to customer operations with additional costs to be incurred in the short term.

The following questions are examples from the MMOG/LE:

F3 - Capacity Planning 3.3.1

Operational parameters (e.g. transport time, lead times, inventory levels, packaging) and internal production requirements (e.g. supplier constraints, scrap rates, set-up times) shall be integrated into the production planning system.

F3 - Engineering Change Control (EDI) 5.3.1

The MP&L function shall participate in the engineering change process to ensure all material planning and logistics requirements are addressed and all changes that affect the supply process are planned, executed, and communicated in a synchronized manner (e.g. BOM, routings, effective dates, supplier notification, scheduling, shipping). Back-up plans shall be in place to ensure continuity of supply.

Traceability (Data Collection) 5.4.1

There shall be a process in place that satisfies customer, industry, government and/or internationally mandated traceability standards, including reporting requirements, for all affected parts (e.g. Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation (TREAD) Act, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FIVES), End of Life Vehicle (ELVA)).

Electronic Communication (iSC) 6.3.2

The extent to which traditional EDI or web-based solutions is used with sub-suppliers is in compliance with customer requirements (e.g. all sub-suppliers, critical commodities, purchase value, part volume).

Next Step: Achieve Compliance

Global MMOG/LE is also used as a self-assessment, or audit tool, for external processes within the organization.

• Once implemented, Global MMOG/LE is the ideal tool to measure existing performance against ‘Best Practices’ and provides the means for driving and monitoring continuous process improvement.

• General Motors, Chrysler LLC, Ford Motor Co., Renault, PSA Peugeot Citroen, Volvo Truck Corp., and Volvo Car Corporation are just a few of the OEMs currently using Global MMOG/LE.

Are your Customers asking you to comply with MMOG/LE or similar mandates?

The majority of the F3 questions in the MMOG/LE self-assessment tool are addressed directly by our Supply Chain Productivity (e-Commerce) and our WorkForce Productivity (data collection) Suites of products.  To learn more call 248-559-6858 or email automotive@radley.com
